Terms of Use & Community Guidelines

These Terms govern your use of the Criticat mobile application, website and related services. Criticat is currently operated by Romanos Ioannidis and Christos Daskalakis as individuals. By creating an account or using Criticat, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

1. Eligibility and accounts

You must be at least 16 years old to use Criticat. If the law where you live requires parental or guardian consent to enter these Terms, you may use Criticat only with that consent.

An account is required. Criticat currently supports Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for activity through your account and must not impersonate others or misuse another person's account.

2. What Criticat does

Criticat lets users photograph, rate and describe buildings and landscapes and place those reviews on community maps. Reviews can include star ratings, photos, location, architectural or landscape classifications, tags, vibes, reasons and comments. Users may also react to other reviews and participate in badges, columns and contributor levels.

Ratings and comments are subjective user opinions. They are not professional, engineering, safety, property-value or legal assessments.

3. Your content and rights

You keep the copyright and other rights you already hold in photographs, comments and other original content you submit ("Your Content"). You may submit only content that you created or that you otherwise have sufficient rights and permissions to use.

By submitting Your Content, you grant Criticat a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable and sublicensable licence to host, store, reproduce, display, process, analyse, adapt, format, combine, distribute, license and otherwise use Your Content in connection with Criticat, its services, research, datasets and derived products.

This licence includes creating, analysing, licensing and commercially using datasets and derived outputs generated from contributions, including for scientific or commercial research and for machine-learning or artificial-intelligence training, testing, validation and development. Your ownership of the original content is not transferred to Criticat. Criticat will not sell an individual photograph as standalone stock photography merely because it was uploaded.

4. Public content and location

Criticat is a community platform. Reviews and associated information may be visible to other users through the app, including on the community map. Basic profile information may also be visible to other users. The personal review map is private by default.

Location permission is currently required for use of the app. Criticat uses foreground location for review placement and map functions and does not use background location tracking.

5. Community rules

Use Criticat to evaluate and discuss places, not to target people. You must not post or distribute:

Do not trespass, enter unsafe areas, obstruct traffic or use Criticat while driving in order to create a review.

6. Reporting, blocking and moderation

Users can report content or users and can block other users. Criticat may review reports, remove or restrict content, and suspend or terminate accounts that seriously or repeatedly violate these Terms. Moderation is carried out through user reporting, blocking tools and administrator review.

7. Badges, columns and contributor levels

Badges, columns and contributor levels are community and gamification features only. Unless Criticat expressly states otherwise, they have no cash value, cannot be redeemed for money and do not create ownership or financial rights.

8. Account and review deletion

You may delete individual reviews in the app. If you delete your account, Criticat deletes the authentication account and user profile. Existing reviews may currently remain in the service after being de-linked from your profile and attributed to the generic "Stray Cat" user. Those reviews may still contain the review photo, text and location. Criticat may also retain aggregate or de-identified information derived from contributions.

9. Copyright, privacy and image-right complaints

If you believe content on Criticat infringes copyright, privacy, image rights or another legal right, contact criticat.app@gmail.com. Identify the content concerned, explain the right affected and provide enough information for us to investigate.

10. Third-party services

Criticat relies on third-party services including Google Firebase, Google Maps, Google Places, Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple. Availability and processing by those services may also be subject to their own terms and policies.

11. Changes and availability

Criticat is an evolving service. Features, classifications, maps and gamification systems may change, be added or be removed. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. If a material change affects your rights, we will provide notice where required by law.

12. Disclaimer and liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Criticat is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not guarantee the accuracy or reliability of user-generated content. Criticat is not intended for navigation, structural assessment, personal safety, property valuation or other professional decisions.

Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot lawfully be excluded, including mandatory consumer rights.

13. Governing law and contact

These Terms are governed by the laws of Greece, without removing any mandatory rights you may have under the law of your country of residence.
